- You must have a gas-fitting contractor licence to provide gas-fitting work to businesses, the public or the government.
- Gas-fitting work includes the design, installation, construction, testing, commissioning, decommissioning, conversion, modifications, relocation, repair, alterations, servicing or maintenance of gas installation or gas storage systems.
- A licence is valid for one year.
- If your application is successful, you will get confirmation within 21 days.

About applying for a gas-fitting contractor licence
A gas-fitting contractor must choose a nominated manager. This person can be anyone that is licensed as a gas-fitter certifier.

How to apply
What you need to apply
You must:
- provide proof of your relevant qualifications and competencies (a minimum of certificate 3 in gas-fitting, certificate 3 in plumbing or certificate 3 in mechanical services and certificate 4 competencies)
- provide a digital copy of your certificate of currency for insurance
- provide a copy of your company or business name registration (if using a name other than your own personal name)
- answer a set of declaration questions (with any supporting documents)
- provide payment
- If you are interstate or overseas, you must provide a passport-size photo certified by a Commissioner for Declarations or a Justice of the Peace (JP).
Can I apply?
You must:
- be a fit and proper (PDF, 147KB) person
- have a strong and stable financial background
- have the relevant qualifications and competencies
- hold an adequate insurance coverage (at least $5 million for any one incident)
- nominate a gas-fitting practitioner licence holder (who has completed the relevant training course) to be a nominated manager.
