- You need an electrical contractor licence to sell electrical services to the public, business or government.
- Electrical work includes the installation, repair, alteration or removal of electrical infrastructure, electrical circuit or associated fittings, equipment or accessories.
- An electrical contractor licence is valid for one year.
- If your application is successful, you receive confirmation within 21 days.

About applying for an electrical contractor licence
When you apply for a licence you must nominate a responsible person in the business as your nominated manager. Your nominated manager must hold an electrical practitioner licence.

What you need to apply
You must:
- provide a digital copy of your certificate of currency for insurance
- provide a digital copy of your company or business name registration (if using a name other than your own personal name)
- provide details of your nominated manager, including their statement of attainment/results for course UEENEEG175 (Develop compliance policies and plans to conduct an electrical contracting business)
- provide answers to a set of declaration questions (with any supporting documents)
- provide payment
- have a photo taken at a service centre. If you are an interstate or overseas applicant you must provide a passport-size photo certified by a Commissioner for Declarations or a Justice of the Peace (JP).
Can I apply?
You must:
- be a fit and proper (PDF, 147KB) person
- have a strong and stable financial background
- have the relevant qualifications and competencies (if you wish to undertake electrical work personally)
- hold an adequate insurance coverage (at least $5 million per incident)
- nominate an electrical practitioner licence holder to be a nominated manager.
