Key info

  • Inspections are performed by vehicle examiners at approved inspection stations. There are different inspection stations depending on your type of vehicle. A map of approved inspection stations is available on the Transport website.
  • Inspections are needed for all vehicles not currently registered in Tasmania (including vehicles previously registered interstate) and for vehicles with registration which expired more than three months ago. There are also a number of other reasons an inspection may be required.
  • You are allowed to drive your unregistered vehicle to a nearby approved inspection station for the purpose of getting it registered. You must be able to prove you have a booking.
  • Inspection fees are payable at the time of inspection and the fee is determined by the approved inspection station (therefore fees will vary).
