Key info
- A vehicle must be entered on the Australian Government Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) to be eligible for registration. The RAV replaced the need for physical compliance (ID) plates to be fitted to vehicles.
- You can search for a vehicle on the RAV by entering the vehicle's 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN is usually found at the base of the windscreen (visible from outside the car) or on the door post or foot well of the vehicle.
- If your vehicle is not on the RAV there are 2 entry pathways. Depending on your vehicle you can apply for a concessional RAV entry approval (PDF, 559KB) or a vehicle type approval (PDF, 799KB). If you have questions about entering your vehicle on the RAV you can contact Infrastructure, Transport and Vehicles by email clientservice@infrastructure.gov.au or phone 1800 075 001.
- You must apply for entry online using ROVER. You must create a ROVER account before starting the application process. You will be required to provide proof of identity and pay a fee.
