Key info

  • You can renew your driver licence while interstate by submitting an out-of-state driver licence renewal or replacement (PDF, 182KB). You can only use this process once to renew your driver licence and must provide a copy of your current driver licence or passport.
  • You should receive your licence within 21 days from the date the application is processed. If you are interstate or overseas, postal delivery times may vary.

About applying to renew or replace a driver licence if interstate or overseas

If you apply to renew or replace your licence from interstate or overseas, it will be valid for one year.

Overseas applicants can apply for either one or 2 years.

Members of the Defence Force can apply for between one and 5 years.

If you are overseas when you lodge your application, additional postage and handling fees will apply.

What you need to apply to renew or replace

To complete the application form (PDF, 182KB) you need:

  • your personal details
  • how long you wish to renew for (if applicable)
  • any relevant medical information
  • a passport quality photo (that meets the photo requirements specified in the application form)
  • a copy of either your current Tasmanian licence or your passport
  • payment.

Can I apply to renew or replace?

You must:

  • not have applied using the out-of-state process before (if applying for a renewal)
  • be able to provide a copy of your current licence or passport.
